Research Focus
_While I trained and worked as an engineer, my research has traversed
many disciplines, including engineering, sociology, education, history
and philosophy, and I have collaborated with many different scholars:
marketing theorists, consumer behaviourists, information technology
specialists, sociologists, organisation theorists, an Irish
scholar, folklorists, an engineer, a psychologist, as well as
practitioners.
My diverse research interests have centred on novelty (encompassing related concepts like innovation, creativity and change) and the unusual in the marketplace. I have contributed to the following literatures: engineering, consumer behaviour, the sociology of technology, management, marketing, project management, organization theory, sociology and education. I am especially interested in the nature of 'management' in atypical forms of organising, and in the history of management thought. My most recent publications have focused on the relationship between work and play in management theory and practice. I'm currently writing about bitcoin, the blockchain, games, disruptive technology, the uncanny, myth, and algorithms.
If you are interested in doing postgraduate research with me, then please send me an email outlining your intended research question.
